Colombia sumó un triunfo importante contra Polonia (0-3) y depende de sí misma para lograr el pase a octavos de final en la tercera y última jornada. Para Polonia, en cambio, la Copa Mundial de la FIFA 2018 finaliza en la fase de grupos.
Tras sufrir sendas derrotas en su primer partido del Grupo H, ambas selecciones llegaban al encuentro bajo presión. Se notó cuando saltaron al césped del Kazán Arena, lleno hasta la bandera con 42.837 espectadores: nadie quería arriesgar y ninguno de los dos equipos quería verse por detrás en el marcador.
La primera acción de verdadero peligro llegó en el minuto 40: James Rodríguez, que hoy sí fue titular, centró el balón al corazón del área y Yerry Mina lo cabeceó al fondo de la red.
En la segunda mitad, Polonia tuvo que asumir más riesgos, lo que abrió espacios para que los sudamericanos salieran al contragolpe. Robert Lewandowski tuvo la única gran ocasión para empatar, pero David Ospina estuvo muy atento y salió a los pies del delantero para evitar el gol.
